Robert Rauschenberg

Robert Rauschenberg

Although Robert Rauschenberg was one of the pioneers of pop art, his oeuvre can be attributed to several different styles, due to its complexity. When abstract expressionism was at its peak, he questioned the conventions of art. For him, there was no separation between art and life. As a postmodern artist, he therefore often used everyday objects alongside art materials in his works: For Rauschenberg, anything could be art. He worked with numerous media, such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and performance.

Jamileh Weber was friends with Robert Rauschenberg for decades, realising numerous exhibitions of his work in her Zurich gallery. She acquired all six of the artworks presented here directly from the artist.
